Emmittsburg, Md. Sanford (Mac) Maguire was installed as 2005 Chef de Gare
for Frederick/Carroll Voiture Locale 155, La Societe de 40 Hommes et 8 Chevaux, during the July Promenade at Kumps Dam.
Grand de Maryland Chef de Gare Donald Fellows (2004) presided at the change of command rite in which he accepted the
gavel from Chef de Gare Passe Norman Covert (2003-2004), passing it to Chef de Gare Maguire (2005). Presiding at the VL155
installation is traditionally the last official act of the grand chef prior to the Grande Promenade.
Also installed by Chef Don were Tom Evans, Chef de Train (Carroll County); Edward Wise, Chef de Train (Frederick County);
Earl (Gene) Benner, Correspondant Locale; The Rev. Robert M. Yoder, Aumonier; James L. Mackley, Conducteur; William Holley,
Guarded de la Porte; Allan Marks, Lampiste; Elvin E. Polesky, Commis Voyageur; Gran Cheminot, Norman M. Covert; Alternate
Grand Cheminot Stanley King; Cheminot Locales Frank Young, Godfrey Miller, and Ronald Harshman; and Frank Young Committee
on Committees and Silas C. Phillips, alternate.
Maguire served during 2004 and will remain as Grand Chef de Train (West) for Maryland. He lives in Thurmont, where
he is a member of American Legion Post 168.
Covert, a member of Frederick's Francis Scott Key Post 11, presented special awards for service to the Voiture to the
following Voyageurs: Commissar Intendant Marino, Correspondant Benner, Aumonier Yoder, Nurses Training Chairman James Mackley,
Sous Commissar Intendant Silas C. Phillips, V. Frank Lewis, V. Mason Wilburn, V. William Holley, V. Robert Browning, V. Manuel
Quinones, V. Stanley King, V. Godfrey Miller, V. Richard Ridenour and V. Joe Rizzo. Chef de Gare Covert
also presented special appointments to voyageurs, who have been most responsible for completing restoration and operation
of the historic Locomotive. These included: Chief Engineer Robert Browning, V. Mason Wilburn, V. Bill Holley, V. Manny Quinones,
V. Ron Harshman and chief fund raisers V. Silas Phillips, V. Francis Marino, V. Frank Young, and V. James Mackley.
